to hunt fairly as one should,

Text is the first verse from the poem “Waidmannsheil” (Good Hunting), by Oskar von Riesenthal (1830–1898).
Although Bohne cataloged this stein as as “Hunter Jug”, its overall shape and lid inlay make clear that it was modeled to resemble an acorn. Hence, the “figural” designation.
