The town of Rudolstadt, founded in the year 776 and located in the German State of Thuringia (or Thüringen), is best known to stein collectors for its concentration of porcelain factories, including Ernst Bohne Söhne (now Albert Stahl & Co.). The two-tailed rampant lion on the front of this stein is taken from the city’s coat of arms. Heidecksburg castle, a local landmark, is pictured on the right side.
