Gustav II Adolf (1594-1632), or Gustavus the Great, was the founder of the Swedish empire and built it into one of the great European powers of the time. He has been called the father of modern warfare and spent most of his adult life engaged in military conflicts, ending with his death while leading a charge during the Thirty Years’ War.
