“Es lebe was auf Erden stolzirt in gruener Tracht,
die Felder u. die Waelder, die Jäger und die Jagd.”

(Long live he who struts on earth in a green suit,
the fields and the forest, the hunter and the hunt.)

Text is the from a poem written by Wilhelm Müller in 1822 and set to music in 1823 by Konradin Kreutzer. The opening line makes reference to the Förster (forest ranger) and his traditional green suit (Trachtenanzug).
