(Hunting is the German’s desire, his heart beats warm in his chest.)
“Deutsches Wort und deutscher Sang haben einen guten Klang.”
(German word and German song have a good sound.)

“Hermann” (or “Arminius” as he was known to the Romans) successfully led an alliance of Germanic tribes in the crushing defeat of three Roman legions at the Battle of Teutoburg Forest in 9 A.D. The battle effectively put a permanent halt to the expansion plans of the Roman Empire into territories east of the Rhine river.
