The scene on this stein, taken from an ancient epic German poem entitled the Nibelungenlied, depicts the mythical hero Siegfried giving the bridal cup to his wife-to-be Kriemhilde, sister of the Burgundian king. Based on a painting by Theodor Pixis (1831-1907).
