A Sch�tzenliesel was a waitress at German shooting matches (Sch�tzenfeste), which were popular social events during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The image on this stein is taken from an 1881 painting by Friedrich von Kaulbach (below).

The �Catalog No.� for this stein (177a) is provided by a hand-inked base number identifying the transfer decoration, which was applied to an unnumbered body supplied by Merkelbach & Wick.
