Side images derived from paintings by Munich artist and professor Franz Defregger (1835-1921), whose depictions of Tyrolean life have come to symbolize the genre and are often seen on beer steins.

Some examples, including the one shown here, exist with a relief lid inlay bearing the trade mark of the Keeley Brewing Company, which operated in Chicago, IL between 1878 and 1920.
