Three Biblical Scenes

Catalog No. 891

Pottery or stoneware (Siegburg style), relief, 2.0L, pewter lid.

This stein is configured to resemble a Siegburg Schnelle, and may in fact be a reasonably accurate copy of a 16th century original.

The top image (below left) depicts Absalom, third son of David, King of Israel, who rebelled against his father and in this scene is shown meeting his death at the Battle of Ephraim Wood. The central image (below center) portrays Joshua, an aide to Moses and a warrior credited with leading the Israelites in the conquest of Canaan. The bottom image (below right) shows King David seeking consecrated bread from a priest (David begehrt das Heilige Brot), a scene described in the 1 Samuel 21. The images are all repeated on three sides of the stein.

Price Range $175-$250
