King Ludwig’s Castles

Catalog No. 5400

Pottery, relief, 0.5L, pewter lid.

King Ludwig II of Bavaria (1845-1886), the “Dream King”, is best remembered for his castle-building. The most well known today is Neuschwanstein, but he was also responsible for Linderhof and Herrenchiemsee, two equally spectacular undertakings. Embattled over his spending and leadership, Ludwig was drowned in Lake Starnberg under questionable circumstances at the age of 40.
