The Trumpeter of Säckingen is the title character in a poem written in 1853 by Josef Viktor von Scheffel, which tells the story of a love affair between a trumpeter and a baron’s daughter. Images on all steins in the serving set are taken from a series of engravings done in 1888 by Carl Schweninger (1854-1903) to accompany the published text.
