The post-horn handle, side symbols and text on this stein all make reference to 19th century mounted postal carriers or postilions.

Both text strings attributed to Ernst Heinrich Wilhelm von Stephan, organizer of the German postal system and founder of the Universal Postal Union.

Sometimes found marked �C.G.A. Wiederhold/Berlin�, a finishing shop and distributor.
