Otto von Bismarck (1815-98) was known as the �Iron Chancellor� and is generally acknowledged as having been the prime mover in unifying the German states under a single ruler (Wilhelm I) and in the rise of Germany as a great European power.
Both the central image and the text on this stein are taken from the cover of a book entitled Bismarck, written in 1913 by Julius von Pflugk Harttung, 15th in a series of illustrated monographs by various authors, collectively named �Volksb�cher der Geschichte� (People�s Books of History).
