(When beer and love are lost,
better then to have never been born.)

The central image on this stein, called “Beim Maiwein” (With the May Wine) by the manufacturer, is taken from a poem entitled “The Trumpeter of Säckingen”, written in 1853 by Josef Viktor von Scheffel, which tells the story of the love affair between a Werner (a trumpeter) and Margaritha (a baron’s daughter).
