Emperor Wilhelm I (1797-1888) played a crucial role in modern history in that he presided over the rise of Germany as a great European power in the late 19th century. This memorial stein was introduced in 1897 on the 100th anniversary of his birth.
The second text string is a paraphrase of a frequently quoted sentiment of Wilhelm I, normally stated as �Ich habe keine zeit m�de zu sein.� Both have essentially the same meaning.
