Text is from the poem “In Einem Kühlen Grunde”, written by Joseph von Eichendorff in 1810, and set to music in 1814 by Johann Glück.
The depiction of Wilhelm Tell and his son on the figural lid at the right is taken from a statue in Altdorf, Switzerland, sculpted in 1895 by Richard Kissling.
