Count Helmuth von Moltke (1800-1891), also known as �Moltke the Elder�, served as General Chief of Staff of the Prussian Army from 1858 until his resignation in 1888, from which position he planned and executed successful wars of unification against Denmark, Austria and France, leading to the formation of the modern German state.

Reproductions of this stein (0.5L), some with markings similar to the originals, were made by Schierholz from about 1986 to 1995.
