Catalog No. (X17)
Porcelain, relief, 1.0L, figural inlaid lid (helmet).
The Capo-di-Monte styling of this stein was first introduced in Naples, Italy during the mid-18th century, and generally featured a painted deep relief motif, along with an elaborate figural lid inlay. In the late 19th century the porcelain factories in eastern Germany began creating imitations of the style, some even marked as the originals, which were quite popular at the time. This example from the Schierholz factory (circa 1890) is typical of the genre.
