The detailed image on this stein was created for Villeroy & Boch by Volker Schmidt of Dedweiler/Saarbr�cken and depicts Mettlach�s �Old Tower�, the oldest surviving religious building in the Saarland region. The tower, once part of a Benedictine abbey, dates back to the end of the 10th century and was celebrating its 1,000th anniversary during the year of the Hamburg convention. The lid inlay provides a relief image of the same building and was created by V&B artist Helmut Frank.
