“Gruss aus München”
(Greetings from Munich)
Created as the coat-of-arms or archival seal of Munich in 1239, the centrally depicted Münchner Kindl (Munich Child) has evolved from a hooded monk standing in front of Munich’s gate to a charming child and symbol of the city. Side images include the twin towers of the city’s Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), the Munich Rathaus (City Hall), the world-famous Hofbräuhaus, and the Karlstor city gate.
Some examples marked “Gbr. G/N” (Goldschmidt Brothers, a Nuremberg finishing shop and distributor).
