“The Courting of Siegfried”

Catalog No. 2402

Pottery, etched, 0.5L, inlaid lid.

The theme of this stein is drawn from ancient German and Norse legends, which later served as the basis for Der Ring des Nibelungen, a series of four operas by Richard Wagner. In Act I of Götterdamerung, the final opera in Wagner’s Ring Cycle, Siegfried is given a magic potion which causes amnesia and makes him fall in love with the first person he sees. The purpose of the potion is to make Siegfried forget Brünnhilde, his true love, and to get him to fall in love with Gutrune, the sister of a self-seeking lord who wants to marry Brünnhilde.

Price Range: $350-$500
