Although not specifically identified on the stein, the central image is almost certainly intended to depict a scene from “Der Enderle von Ketsch”, a tale of a ghost sailing the sea, taken from Josef Viktor von Scheffel’s famous series of “Rodensteinliedern” (Rodenstein Songs).
