Richard Wagner’s opera Parsival (or Parsifal), loosely based on a 13th century epic poem about an Arthurian knight and his quest for the Holy Grail, was first performed at Bayreuth 1882. Each of the images surrounding the stein depict a scene from one of the opera’s three acts.
