Catalog No. 1220

Pottery, etched, 0.5L, inlaid lid.

Text:
“Der gesprengte Turm” (lid)
(The Exploded Tower)
“Froh beim Bier, das loben wir.” (body)
(Happiness with beer, that’s what we praise.)

The image on the lid shows the Heidelberg castle powder turret, once used to store gun powder, and blown up by the French in 1693 during the War of Succession. Today the broken turret wall still sits in the castle moat where it was deposited centuries ago.
