In all likelihood, the centrally depicted winged figure is intended to represent King Aeolus, Greek god of the four winds. Aeolus will be familiar to readers of Homerís Odyssey as the god who provided Odysseus with a bag of wind that allowed him to continue on his troubled journey to his home in Ithaca.
