A Sch�tzenliesel was a waitress at German shooting matches (Sch�tzenfeste), which were popular social events during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The popular conception of the Sch�tzenliesel is drawn from an 1881 painting by Friedrich von Kaulbach, depicting a waitress at Munich�s Sterneckerbr�u brewery in native dress with a target-shaped hat and her hands full of overflowing beer steins (below right).
