Pottery or stoneware; relief; 0.5L, 0.4L or 0.3L; pewter lid.

The centrally placed image is of Carolus Magnus (Charlemagne), king of the Franks from 768 and the first Holy Roman Emperor from 800 until his death in 814. Side images depict Arminius (a.k.a., Hermann the German), leader of a German tribal alliance that defeated three Roman legions at Battle of Teutoburg Forest in 9 A.D., and Alexander the Great, the Macedonian conqueror who created one of the largest empires in the ancient world. Pictured on the rear behind the handle is Ramses the Great, generally regarded as the most powerful pharaoh of Ancient Egypt.
